RoboHelp Server 7 n00b questions

Hi All,

My company is considering RH Server 7 to go along with our upgrade from RH 5x to RH 7. We're looking for a way to integrate our help topics, learning videos (created in Captivate), FAQ, blogs and customer forums in one happy, local server environment so we can have more control over how/when things get updated.

Right out of the gate, we've got the following questions that I can't seem to find answers to in any of the literature or posted in the forums:

*Does RH S7 support Flash-based progressive downloads? (Our videos are currently hosted by Adobe)
*Can other content (blogs, forums, etc.) be included in the Server and it's metrics?
*I so, does it have some sort of search engine?
*If so, can it be set to index ALL relevant content (not just the Help topics)?
*Does it support RSS feeds of updates to content?

I'll have more, I'm sure, but this is a start...

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi freewaydiva and welcome to the RH community.

There are a lot of questions here that may not be answered as I doubt whether this is the correct forum for them. I say this because most people here are documentation (not server) specialists.

That said, I can help with some of them. RH Server 7 can index MS office documents and PDFs so long as they are included as part of your RH7 project (e.g. links to PDFs). The RH7 client on its own won't do any of the other things you ask about but that doesn't necessarily mean it can't be done outside of RH. As I said, I'm not a server expert.

Here are a few links to some docs about RH Server 7...they skim the surface. Unfortunately there isn't much out there, and a lot of the work done with RoboHelp 7 has to be trial by fire. The program drives our network admin mad, but we just try to work blindly through things and eventually we usually find a solution. That's about the best advice I can give. In the future if you have any questions shoot them to the RoboEngine forum as there are a few people that may be able to help you out!!

http://www.adobe.com/devnet/robohelp/articles/rhserver.html - (This is a link to a great article written by John Daigle -one of the world's greatest RoboHelp rockstars - regarding RH Server 6. It's probably the best article I have found to date. I use it a lot when discussing RH Server with people who have no clue what it does or it's capabilities.)

Hope this helps!

Thanks, both of you, for the quick responses. I'll check out the links, jdcyclone1 - thanks so much for posting them - and pester the nice people on the RoboEngine forum in the future.

Cheers!
