Flash Player Silent auto update not working anymore

Since the update to Version 20 the update is not working anymore. Has anyone had the same problems and was able to solve them?

Some information on my setup:

I had previously installed Flash player version 16.0.0.296, both ActiveX and Plugin version (installed through the .msi files, deployed via Active Directory/GPO - no further configuration, just plain original .msi files).

we use the Auto Update functionality as described here:

The file "mms.cfg" under C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\Macromed\Flash\ contains:

AutoUpdateDisable=0

SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1

SilentAutoUpdateServerDomain=GBKGCMM01.company.internal

SilentAutoUpdateVerboseLogging=1

The task "Adobe Flash Player Updater" was created and is scheduled to run every 1 hour. I can see that it is started ("last start time"), the result code is 0x0 which means "no error".

The Update to Version 19.0.0.245 works well but since that it doesn't work anymore.

All the updates end up with 1620.

If have deleted the registry keys:

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Macromedia\FlashPlayerSAU\UpdateAttempts

and

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Macromedia\FlashPlayer\LastUpdateCheck

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Macromedia\FlashPlayer\UpdateAttempts

Then I have the following in the Log-File:

Trying to access the currentmajor.XML via https ends up as expected. The Internet Explorer Shows me the Content as it is.

Any idea to fix this ?

Hi,

Thanks for posting the contents.  It points to the cause of why Background Update is not working.  You need to update the version.xml file in this directory with the latest version 20 file.  The service checks this file to find out what the latest version is and if it is higher than what is installed it updates, otherwise, it terminates as no new update is found.  Seems you updated the currentmajor.xml file but not this file.

Please be sure to deploy the entire contents of the fp_background_update.cab file to your local server, overwriting what's there from a previous release, for Background Update to work correctly.
