How do I download Flash Player on a PC that doesn't need it?

Had to delete Flash Player under the advisement from a help forum as a step towards fixing an issue where it was causing Edge, IE 10 and 11, and Firefox to have to recover web pages and wouldn't play any web based videos.  Now, I need to download it and this site isn't letting me because it's determined that the PC I'm on doesn't need it.  Any advise?

Hi,

I'm assuming you've already downloaded it for Firefox and you're issue is with IE11 and Edge browser.  As of Windows 8,

Microsoft embeds Flash Player in Internet Explorer (and Edge in Windows 10) and consider it to be a protected file system file, which isn't easily deleted without obtaining some program to modify permissions on the files in order to delete them.  Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't provide a standalone installer to re-install Flash Player for IE (and Edge) on Windows 8 and above.  You can try one of the following options to repair the deleted Flash Player from your system:

  • Run System File Checker to repair files/permissions: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833
  • Find a previous Flash Player Update for IE/Edge KB article and run the installer.  See Microsoft Security Advisory 2755801 for links to KB articles for previous version of Flash Player updates for IE/Edge which contain links to download the updates.
    • You may need to do this several times until you find one that works, that is if you find one that works.

If these options do not fix the problem, please contact Microsoft customer support or their community forums.
