My OS is Windows 8.1 64 bit. I use ADE since November 2015 but this problem first appeared when I tried to start it today.
When I now try to download and open a purchased ebook from an .ascm file, ADE completes the download, then it just freezes. However, the .epub file still appears in the "My Digital Editions" folder. When I try to open an .epub file from there, ADE comes up but does not display any content. It also does not show me my library of downloaded .epub files although I can see in the folder that they are there. This problem only appears on my computer. When I try to read the ebooks on my Android smartphone ADE app it works and the library is displayed correctly.
I have tried to restart the computer, remove and reinstall ADE, revoke the authorization and reauthorize it. I have no clue what to do now.

Update: When I try to add the .epub files in "My Digital Editions" or any other .pdf file to the library it says "Adobe Digital Editions has stopped working".

Right click on the Digital Edition and choose run as Admin. Then go to file > add to library and choose a ePub File.

I have had the same problem since the last update (I am running Windows 10). Mine doesn't happen all the time, but very frequently. Previously I got around it by reinstalling an earlier version of the program. Mainly, I just shut down with the task manager as each book is downloaded. Then load all the files in "My Digital Editions" folder to Calibre. As long as you put your Adobe ID in, you can open all the files there, even the ones that Digital Editions won't let you open ie "Unable to Open" or "No record found on this machine". I really wish they would just fix whatever bug it is though.
