    When opening a purchased etext, error message reads, "The server answer is an HTML error page."

      I am using a MacBook Pro and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. I purchased an etextbook from Pearson that expires in 160 days. The instructions read,

      NOTE ABOUT DESKTOP PRINTING: Your ebook permits only ONE desktop printing session. If you wish to print your entire digital publication, you must print the entire file all at once. Printing just a portion will count as your one and only session.

      1. Make sure you have Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If not, go to http://www.adobe.com/products/reader.html and follow the instructions for downloading.
      2. In order to view your downloaded content, you must first download the Adobe Plug-in by clicking on this link:http://plugin.fileopen.com/Default.aspx?bhcp=1 and following the Adobe instructions for installation. You will only need to download this plug-in installer once.
      3. Go back to your bookshelf on www.pearsonecontent.com and click the "Download" button next to your content. Make sure you are familiar with the location of your downloads. If possible, we recommend saving the content to your desktop.
      4. Open Acrobat Reader. Click File > Open and navigate to your downloaded content. Select the content and click the Open button.
      5. You will be able to read your content anytime during your subscription period by opening it via Acrobat Reader.

      IMPORTANT FOR MAC USERS: The FileOpen plug-in is not currently compatible with Adobe Reader 11 for Mac. If you are using Mac OS X, please use Adobe Reader 10, available here:http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?platform=macintosh&product=10

       

      The weird thing is, I've been opening the etext in Adobe (with the plug-in downloaded as stated above) successfully for a week. I now get the error message "The server answer is an HTML error page." I haven't made any changes to Adobe or my laptop. I've contacted Pearson and they don't know what the problem is.

       

      I also can't seem to download an older version of Adobe Acrobat Reader even when directed to that website, but I feel like that's irrelevant since I was viewing the etext on Adobe for a week even with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

       

      What does this error message mean?
