Trying to make 3D glass text shatter

I am trying to make 3D glass text shatter in After Effects. I created 3D glass text following this tutorial Sexiest 3D Glass Intro Ever (Template Included) | After Effects Tutorial - YouTube

This tutorial creates the text in Ray Traced 3D.

Now I am trying to animate it shattering. When add the Shatter effect to the text, it doesn't do anything.

Can anyone suggest how I may be able to do this, or point me in the direction of a youtube tutorial.

Create a new comp using the standard not the 3-D Ray-traced rendering engine.

Drag your 3-D glass text comp into the new comp and apply shatter.

Do not expect the 3-D text to break up like it would if you actually shattered a 3-D object. If you want to do that you will have to use a 3-D app. You should be able to do it with Cinema 4D Lite  which is included with the latest versions of AE.

One other note, you should have received a warning when you enabled Ray-traced rendering that effects and blend modes would not work. You need to pay attention to those warnings and work around the problems they predict.
