How can I deauthorize a computer and e-reader when the email I used no longer exists?

I'm trying to help someone reauthorize Adobe Digital Editions.  The email with which she authorized her computer no longer exists.  How can she reset her information to use her new email?

We tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program but it remembered her old info.  She has changed the email of her Adobe account but Digital Editions is still attached to the old email which no longer exists and whose password she's forgotten.

Macintosh:

1. quit Adobe Digital Editions.
2. Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.
   If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden library files | Mac OS 10.7 and later.
3. Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize

Windows:

1. Close all applications.
2. Choose Start > Run.
3. In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.
4. In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept
5. Select the Adept key.
6. Choose File > Export.
7. In the Export Registry File dialog box, select Selected Branch under Export Range. Enter a name and location for the backup registry key, and then click Save.
8. Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.
9. In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.
10. Close the Registry Editor.
11. Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

This did not work; however, I found a solution that did.

1. Access the Adobe account through their website.

2. Edit your account settings to change your primary email to your old one.

3. Save this info, which makes your account match the authorization on Digital Editions.

4. Open Digital Editions and deauthorize your computer using your Adobe password and old email.

5. Change your Adobe email back to your new one through the website.

6. Reopen Digital Editions and authorize it with your new information.

I tried your suggestion but when I tried to save the new (old email) the site refused to save it.
