Help with error: E_AUTH_BAD_DEVICE_KEY_OR_PKCS12

I keep getting the "bad device" message each time I try to open a downloaded library book.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program and this did not fix the problem.  I'm using a MAC, OS 10.1 with all updates.  There was a problem with my appleID recently and we had to reset my keychain, however the "cloud" keychain was not affected.  I'm not certain if this would have an effect on ADE, but obviously something is wrong.

What do I do now?

Just a quick update...

I've tried to deauthorize the computer, but I get another error message:

"Unable to erase authorization.  Please try after some time."

Problem remains unresolved.  Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, when I get to the Adobe folder, there is not a Digital Editions folder.  I did check the "Flash Player Install Manager" but the file isn't there either.

Stressed....  : (

Thanks so much for the suggestion though.  It makes perfect sense and it should work.  I just don't understand why the file program won't deactivate.  *sigh*

I tried that as well.  It's doesn't seem to be anywhere.  Odd.  I'm using a Mac as well.  There is this:

Library>Application Support>Adobe>Flash Player and Install Manager>fpsaud

I have no idea what type of file it is, there's no identifier and if I open it as a text file it's gibberish.  I suppose I could delete the Flash player (I can always re-install that).  Maybe that's what's stopping me from de-authorizing?

I just don't want to make things worse.

Finally fixed this problem!

For those of us on Mac OS 10.7 and higher, follow these steps EXACTLY to de-authorize your computer.

Close Digital Editions.

Open Finder>Menu> Go to> type in: ~/Library  (this reveals the hidden files)

Continue with Application Support>Adobe>Digital Editions>

In the Digital Editions folder, delete activation.dat

Close the finder.

Empty your trash.

Restart the application and reauthorize your computer!

I'm back up and running!  Good luck and a big thank you to "verob" for getting me on the right track!
