Digital Editions Version 4.5 works with Winows 7 but not with Windows XP?

Have two computers both with version 4.5 of Digital Editions, I can download books from libray ok with Win. 7 computer but not

with Win XP computer, when I try I get error message    Adobe Reader could not open file because it is either not a supported file type or the file is corrupted.

I am not sure if thes is really a Windows issue or something else.
