Nancy O. Jun 5, 2016 9:57 AM (in response to gator soup)1 person found this helpfulYour best option is to convert MOV files to MP4. Switch to HTML5 <video> which uses the browser's native player. No messy installations or extra plugins required. MP4 is supported by all devices now.
<!--begin video-->
<video controls poster="Your_Poster_Image.jpg">
<source src="YOUR_VIDEO.mp4" type="video/mp4">
</video>
<!--end video-->

Nancy O. Jun 5, 2016 10:10 AM (in response to gator soup)1 person found this helpfulOh, I missed the bit about GoLive. That's ancient software by today's web standards. I don't think it supports HTML5 code. It's fair to say you've outgrown GoLive for modern web site development. It's just too old to be of much value to you.
Dreamweaver CC supports modern code in HTML5. And you can easily insert <video> from the Insert Panel. See screenshot.
If you can't or won't buy a subscription to the Creative Cloud (the only way to get Dreamweaver now), you can download Brackets (it's free). As a code editor, Brackets is infinitely better than CS2 GoLive.
Brackets - A modern, open source code editor that understands web design.

One other possibility, depending on the copyright of the video files, would be to move them all to a video site such as YouTube, then insert them into your site using an iframe.

gator soup Jun 5, 2016 2:39 PM (in response to Nancy O.)pziecnina - right now uploading a couple dozen of my original movies to youtube is not an option.
Nancy O. - I have a couple hard licenses of Dreamweaver CS6 installed on Macs, but honestly the learning curve keeps me from using it and updating my sites with it. It's the same learning curve that's kept me from FireWorks. Yes, I'm an old dog set in his ways.
My .html pages use and depend on tables to control my layout, example:
http://www.kumeyaay.info/multimedia/fire_fighting/
I guess there is no simple way of converting my existing GoLive pages to HTML 5 standard by simply replacing a few lines of code?
Short of rebuilding the 30 or so pages of .mov content in an app I would have to learn?
I'm afraid I will just let these pages become useless.
++++++++
But what approach might you take on rebuilding that portfolio (if you have any more time to spare)?

gator soup Jun 5, 2016 2:43 PM (in response to gator soup)Switch to HTML5 <video>
In other words, would I be able to paste in that code to my existing pages to convert them to HTML5 (or would I have to rebuild the pages from scratch)?

6. Re: HELP ME update .html for Quicktime 7 problem
Nancy O. Jun 5, 2016 3:49 PM (in response to gator soup)1 person found this helpfulYou need an HTML5 doc type which is much simpler than old X/HTML code..
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Unique Page Title </title>
</head>
<body>
YOUR CONTENT GOES HERE
</body>
</html>
These days people don't use tables for layouts. It's all CSS and responsive for a better user experience across multiple devices (mobile, tablets & desktops). 30 pages is nothing much. I've rebuilt sites much, much larger than that It just requires patience & perseverance.

BenPleysier Jun 5, 2016 4:26 PM (in response to gator soup)2 people found this helpfulIf I had time constraints for learning and or creating a new site using HTML5 then I would
1. Using search-and-replace to replace
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" />
with (as per Nancy's suggestion)
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
This will start you off on the HTML5 path
2. Upload all of your .mov files to YouTube as per Paula's suggestion
3. Follow the instruction given at Embedding Youtube Videos as "Audio only" clips | Drupal.org
Not only will the audio files work in all browsers, you will also be set to continue using HTML5 on further developments/modifications. To see which elements of your document do not adhere to HTML5 go to [Invalid] Markup Validation of http://www.gballard.net/gary_stokes/ - W3C Markup Validator, remembering that, if your site works, there is no great pressure on when you should rectify the code.

Nancy O. Jun 5, 2016 4:59 PM (in response to BenPleysier)2 people found this helpfulI believe the OP is using video here not audio.
But I agree, YouTube or Vimeo will have 2 major benefits.
1) hosting the media on their fast dedicated streaming servers.
2) no excess bandwidth for you to carry on your own server.
Change is hard. The web changes so fast these days, at some point it's essential to give up old habits and look at new ways of doing things. We all struggle with this. Once you get over the initial hurdles, it's often much less painful than imagined.

9. Re: HELP ME update .html for Quicktime 7 problem
gator soup Jun 6, 2016 8:57 AM (in response to Nancy O.)great info all around -- better (more concise) than anything else i could find searching
i had hoped there would be a simple few sections of code swapping that would [1] resolve the QuickTime problem, [2] keep my existing layout working in place, and [3] keep me from having to rebuild the problem pages from scratch
now i have an answer, that it is not possible
thanks again...

BenPleysier Jun 6, 2016 4:00 PM (in response to gator soup)1 person found this helpfulDon't give up that easily. It will not take much time and effort at all. Referring to the steps I proposed
- Search and replace will take 30 seconds
- Upload all of the videos/audios; your time 1 minute, wait time a couple of hours.
- Copy and paste the same code into each document and change the URL variable related to the file, 30 mins.
In less than an hour of your time you have working code using your existing layout.
