I'm new to Captivate and find the discovery of documentation falls short, especially in this example.
Would anyone be willing to either point me to the answer or provide it here?

Are you talking about a cpvc-file or a cptx-file?

CPTX.
Thanks!

A cptx-project is composed of static slides, and you should create the narration on slide basis: one audio clip per slide. Since the slides are static, synchronizing audio with appearance of objects is a lot easier than with a real video like you are used to in Camtasia. That is why I asked about the file format, because cpvc-files are real videos and much more similar to Camtasia.
You can use the Slide Notes to put in the text for the narration, and make them visible while you record the audio clips. In the Audio dialog box (when you choose Record, to Slides) there is a button 'Preview' that you can turn on and the slide will play while you record the narration. In combination with the Slide notes (which can later also be used for CC) this is a good work flow.

Yes, thanks. But I can't start the Preview after I hit record, and timing the beginning of the Preview before recording is a poor, ineffective experience.
When I first started using the tool, the video playback was automatically triggered by toggling Record. None of these alternatives were necessary. Any idea how can I get back to that state?
Thanks again.

You are still thinking too much about video, not about static slides at all. How long are your slides? If you were talking about real Video I would understand, but for a short slide of some seconds, why do you need a behavior like in Camtasia where the whole video has to be narrated?
And please, start a new thread. This is a 9 years old thread, so much has changed in Captivate.
