I will soon upgrade my entire workstation for 4K video ediitng in Premiere Pro and After Effects. One thing that I'm still unsure about is the GPU. From most articles I read that the GPU isn't too important and only one card is supported in Premiere Pro. But those articles are all from last year or even longer ago.
Could anyone confirm whether a single GTX1080 or two GTX1070 in SLI would give me noticeable better performance in Premiere Pro and After Effects?
Thank you in advance!
its best to try and use a single gpu when possible, as not all software and plugins can use two. AE doesn't use the gpu as much as premiere, and i don't think it supports multi-gpu like premiere. a single gtx 1060 or 1070 will be fine for most premiere 4k projects, you would have to have a special need for more gpu power.
Thank you for the clarification! I will go for a single GTX 1080
In addition to the correct answer that RoninEdits provided, Premiere Pro has been known to suffer from serious stability issues in MPE GPU acceleration mode with two or more GPUs with SLI enabled - and the fix would have been to either disable SLI or switch Premiere to the MPE software-only mode.
