Random library books crash DE 4.5.1 when it auto opens after downloading the file. How can I fix this as I have a book I have been on a 3 month wait list for twice that I want to read. This is on Windows 10
Already tried:
Reinstalling
Running as administrator
Running in Windows 8.1 mode
Deleting all copies of the books and trying the above
Setting DE as default to open the file type
Renaming the My Digital Editions folder
Windows:
Close all applications.
Choose Start > Run.
In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.
In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept
Select the Adept key.
Choose File > Export.
In the Export Registry File dialog box, select Selected Branch under Export Range. Enter a name and location for the backup registry key, and then click Save.
Right-click the Adept

Have the issue only with the one file? If yes hould contact the library to check the file.

No, it is multiple files from two different libraries. Some of which worked fine under the previous version of DE which is why I am here not calling my libraries.

All files the same file format?

All the files from the library are:
Adobe Content Server Message (.acsm)
It should be the library's fault if some files of the same type open and some don't. Except for the problem I reread books quite a lot and some of the ones I am having trouble with I have read before using the previous version of DE which implies that it is DE 4.5.1 that is the problem.

Tried redownloading the files, and changing the name of the My Digital Editions folder so the new download was the only book showing in ADE and it still crashes

Has you try it with a other file?

How do you mean? The library only offers 1 type of file.
Some .acsm files work on the previous version and 4.5.1.
Some have worked on the previous version of ADE but don't on 4.5.1
Some I have only tried on 4.5.1 and some of those randomly work and others don't.

That it the file format. Has you try it only with a other eBook?

It can't be the file format because I have downloaded the exact same file with two different versions of ADE and the fie opened on the old version of ADE and not on 4.5.1.
The only variable that has changed is ADE.

But you can loan a other eBook or not?

I have never tried. I don't buy ebooks I only borrow them from the library

I have tried this with many books from two different libraries.
The only file format that is available and that works on my Nook is .acsm (please note ADE crashes when the book is being transferred to ADE, it freezes before the Nook is even plugged in.
I have tried multiple different books. Some of the .acsm files work. Some of the .acsm files do not work.
And importantly. This problem only started with 4.5.1.
Some of the files I have downloaded before and they didn't crash ADE.
For example. SevenEves worked on the previous version of ADE and not the current one. That is tested from two different libraries.
Anathem worked on the previous version of ADE and works on the current version of ADE.
This is why I think it is an issue with ADE and would like some advice on how to get this POS software working properly.

Wonderful. Absolutely effing wonderful.
Well you have solved the problem with only some books opening by making it so no books open.
New books being downloaded to ADE 3.0.1 get the error: Error! Check activation
Books that were already on the library have the error:
An Error Has Been Detected
Activation Server Error
Code E_Adept_Internal
And I know what you are about to say, because when I try to return a title it says the computer is not authorized.
When I go to the Help tab the top line "authorize computer" is greyed out and if I click the second Computer Authorization line it says:
This Computer is already authorized
And then shows my Adobe account information.
Any more ideas?

Thank you for the heko
Anyone else with 4.5.1 issues just dump the POS and put 3.0.1 back and do the above to fix the registry and then redownload all your books
