Why doesn't the font color change on a slide when I change it?

I'm creating a quiz and the font on the slide is a dark brown .. default, I
guess. Since I have a background on the slides, I need the questions to
appear in white. So I right click on the question, click on Properties, and
change the font color to white.

Nothing changes. The question is still brown and still cannot be seen.
Doesn't matter if I change the font color to green, red, white or purple.
It's still brown.

Does this not work? How do I get the font color to actually change on the
questions?

That's question #1. Question #2 would be .. can't I just use CSS with my
quiz? Would be so much easier to set all the slides globally by attaching
them to a CSS sheet and changing that.

Thanks!
Nancy

Hi Nancy

When you right-click the question slide and choose Properties, the color setting you choose is for the background of the slide. So if you weren't using a background image, you would see the slide background change color.

To change the color of the text on the question, you need to double-click a text element while you are looking at the slide. Once you do that, you will see that you may select all the text and apply a color there. Then, if you like, you could enable the apply to all and hopefully the color would apply to all the other text elements. (I say "hopefully", as sometimes the apply to all function is wonky and won't always work. Where I come from, that's called a feature. )

Sorry, no CSS quite yet with Captivate. Who knows, maybe th next version will have such a feature. But not at this point.

Cheers... Rick

I've done that and it worked the first time, then it changed back and now it
won't work. I am selecting the text of the question .. I am applying the
new white color in the font color box after selecting the text in the
question dialogue box .. and the slide still shows brown text.

Then, if you like,

Tried that too .. doesn't work.

Okay .. I got it but I gotta be honest .. this is about the flakiest thing
.. :)

Here is what I had to do. Double click the question itself. Select the
question text. Change the font color to something other than white .. red,
purple, green .. anything else works and the font color changes. Then go
back and repeat the steps, reselect the question and change the font color
to white.

Then save the thing because by this time, I'm paranoid .. ;)

Then go back and do the same thing for each of the multiple choice answers.
After changing the color to the something else, some attempts to get it
white worked the first time .. others took 2-3 tries to get the other color
to change to white.

But changing the default black (though it looks more like dark brown)
directly to white never works. Why not?

I did say apply to all slides .. but since most of them are not created yet,
I will assume I will have to go through this .. took about 15 minutes to get
one slide to look like I wanted .. for every one. there are 50 in a random
pool which will make up quizzes of 10 each.

Please Adobe .. make Captivate 4 work with a CSS sheet!

Thanks for your help .. if there is a better way, I'm all ears!

Update to this problem:

After working through the headache described above, the preferences appeared
to "take" and subsequent slides have all come out with white text as
created. Who knew? :)

Doing well with this now .. creating the 5 10-question quizzes from a random
pool of 50 questions appears to be a cinche now that the kinks are ironed
out.

Thanks Rick .. your work on this forum is awesome!

I just hit this exact problem and I found a workaround. I think this is a bug. I have a template that includes my desired Quiz types as several question pools and all of my general settings, progress bar styles, button styles, Etc. I made the tamplate from scratch.

So I then save the template as a new name and import a bunch of PowerPoint slides. But then it won't let me change ths font to white on the Quiz slides in the Quiz pools?

I select each element and then I use the color pallet and click white and it stays black?

The solution was to:
1. Click the text elementt
2. Hightlight the text
3. Select the color pallet
4. use the eye-dropper to pick a White spot form the text editig window (click on white)
5. Press OK and you'll have White text in the Quiz Pool Label
6. Repeat for each label

This seemed to force white. It could be that the color code for White in Captivate is somehow blocked in the quiz Pool, but this seems to be a bug. I just logged this bug on the bug page and pointed them to this thread.
