Flash Player (FP) 17 or 18 installation failed.Tried multiple times. Installer stops at 5%. Says "This installation failed. Get support." A link goes back to the regular FP Help page. Confirmed that FP is not installed on computer. Reinstalled OSX10.10.4 on my Mac mini but that did not fix problem. Tried Firefox+Safari. What else can I try? Is there a software substitute for Flash Player? Many websites including Fidelity say I need Flash Player. I have tried all of Adobe's suggestions and am desperately hoping someone may have other options? Anyone?

Hi susan13,
Can you please provide Flash player online installer (ADM) logs . This will help us to debug further.
Please follow instructions from the section (File #3 and 4: Adobe_ADM.log and Adobe_GDE.log) in the below link to get ADM logs.
Please do enable Verbose Logging.
Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on the Macintosh?
--------------------
For Quick help please find offline Flashplayer installer.
Click on the following Adobe link. Go down to the bottom where it says, "Still having problems?". Click on the link for your browser.

Is there any insight into this bug? My son tells me he is having this exact same problem today. He tells me "It gets to 5% and says finish. When I click finish it says that it couldn't be installed and deletes the installer." I told him to install Firefox and try. The same thin happened when he tried to install from Firefox. I'm still working with him on it, and if we can't get it working tonight I'll get him to send me the installation log and I'll post it in here. But in the meanwhile, if you have any clue what could be causing the problem that could help us to try other solutions that we haven't so far. As yet, I'm just getting him to run Disk Cleanup and CCleaner, then reboot and try again. When he gets around to it we'll see where we're at.

Using ElCapitan. both Safari and firefox.
When I run the install adobe flash player for v23 it opens a small window, starts a download process, and then goes into an unending cycle at "5% downloaded".
This has happened with Safari, with Firefox,
I tried the Flash Player uninstall app on the websitebut it would not download or start.
I tried downloading direct from a macromedia link but it never connected properly or downloaded.
Found a file <How to perform a "clean install" of Flash ... Adobe Community.html>
So I trashed the old files in the adobe and library directories. Rebooted.
No improvement. Still the "5%" stall.
Mac aren't supposed to be so glitchy.
VERY FRUSTRATING.

If the files won't download there is an issue with your system. Troubleshooting system issues is beyond the scope of these forums.
What is the name of the install file that fails at 5%?
What Safari and Firefox version is this on?

I'm having the same issue on a brand NEW IMac. So I have my doubts that it's just the system, considering there are a few of us that are having this issue. I do have an update that needs to be installed on my IMac, so I wonder if that might help.

I got it working. For Mac users, upgrade your OS system, from El Capitan to macOS Sierra, version 10.12 (16A323). Then reinstall Adobe Flash Player. Then restart your computer, and it should work. It did for me.

I tried to install Sierra and there do not seem to have been any problems.
However, the screen on my desktop is still "El Capitan" of Yosemite rather
than a new mountain range that I was expecting. Is this really "Sierra"?
"About this Mac" reports macOS Sierra 10.12.
So I tried activating a couple of the many downloads of "install Flash
Player v23 ... dmg" clicking on its image in the little floating box and
the new box froze at 5% download, each time. Grrrr.

If "About this Mac..." reports it's 10.12 then it should be 10.12. If you have doubts, please contact Apple Support.
As with the other posts on this topic, we need the install logs to troubleshoot the installation error. Review the FAQ Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on the Macintosh? and provide all 4 files listed (Adobe_ADM.log, Adobe_GDE.log, install.log, and FlashPlayerInstallManager.log) for the same installation attempt. Upload the files to cloud.acrobat.com/send using the instructions at How to share a document and post the link to the uploaded files in your reply.

So here is what I did. Currently running Sierra 10.12 and have rebooted.
Picture of El Capitan is still in background.
Having watched the video on how to find the installFlashPlayer logs--
I went to the Console under /var/log to get the install log file for
Install Adobe Flash Player.app according to the video.
HOWEVER, there were no marker buttons for marking positions in the log.
Buttons on the Console were "Now" "Clear" "Reload" "Activities" "Info"
-space- "Share" and a space for "Search".
So I ignored that, assuming an old video while I'm using Sierra's Console.
So I noted the time of the last log and the time of the system. 11Oct 21:23
(it is +2 time zone from London)
Then I went to my Download directory and activated
AdobeFlashPlayer_23_a_install-6.dmg (my sixth attempt at downloading this
app)
This opened a box with the Install Flash Player Icon inside. I double
clicked the icon.
A new box opened and asked if I wanted to Open the downloaded internet
file. I clicked Open, then I entered my system password.
Then I 'accepted' Allow Adobe to install Automatic Updates and clicked
"next"
Then a new box opened: "Adobe Flash Player: Downloading" and the blue bar
jumped to 5% and froze.
After a couple of minutes I used Command-Option-ESC and then Force Quit the
InstallAdobeFlashPlayer for the umpteenth time.
Then I visited the Console /var/log install log and found no new entries.
So I refreshed the log, scrolled down and found no new entries after 21:03
even though the Installation was attempted at 21:23 to 21:26.
Then I checked "About this Mac", System Report, Scrolled down to Software,
and found logs, installer logs, /var/log/ and again, nothing after 21:03.
So I have NO log file to send.
PS: I am currently in Arusha, Tanzania so I do not know where the closest
Mac Store and "Genius Bar" is.

The FAQ refers to 4 log files - Adobe_ADM.log, Adobe_GDE.log, FlashPlayerInstallManager.log, and install.log file. install.log file is a system log file where all software installations are logged to. If nothing is being written to the install.log file it suggests the installation is failing prior to this point. Please provide the other 3 log files.

Thank you. Yes, I have tried to directly download that file. However, since
I am now on Sierra 10.12 it seems right to try this again.
I found a link titled "Flash Player for Safari and firefox - NPAPI"
I clicked on the link and opened a new tab in safari that tries to open
fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player_osx.dmg
A blue line appears under the tab address that covers about 10% of the tab
address space.
No progress appears or moves after that tab address and progress bar open.
It is dead.
This has happened every time in the past in El Capitan, too, when I tried
to directly download this file.
Is there another address for downloading this file. This has got to be one
of the strangest things I encountered.
PS: I also have Firefox on my system and when I manually type in this
address the tab says "Connecting" but never engages.
PPS: I also have Parallels and windows10 on my system. When I try manually
typing in the address with Edge ...
I get a black screen, nothing happens. Finally a white screen. Other tabs
can be opened and websites work fine.
so is there another address for the direct file?
Thank you .

yesterday as one potential fix to the problem. It seems that anything to do

Success:
I tried to install from a different country and network, in Kenya. The
installer downloaded to "50%" then tried to install and "failed."
I then downloaded the direct file installer download list at the end of the
troubleshooting page. For the first time it downloaded successfully.
I then downloaded the uninstaller, closed all browsers, and un-installed
FlashPlayer successfully for the first time.
Then I ran the direct file install Flash Player app and it proceeded to
install Flash Player successfully ! ! !
I do not know why this was so difficult or what changed to allow the
successful installation but v.23 is now installed on my Safari, running in
10.12 Sierra.
