What is meant by guidelines? If the crash is observed in 11.4.0, please try and upgrade to 11.4.1 as the new update fixes for various crashes that were identified in 11.4
I have this also. First selecting guides on the page, then from Layers panel dragging the layer colored selection button to another layer in order to move them to that layer instantly crashes InDesign. Version is 188.8.131.52.
Of course it will not do this on every document - for those it occurs on, only workaround is not to move guides from layer to layer.
Start of the crashlog:

I cannot see this behavior with InDesign CC 2015.4 v184.108.40.206 on OSX 10.10.5.
Could be the newer OSX version responsible for this?
Or maybe GPU usage with / without Animated Zoom?
( I'm working on an old MacBook Pro from late 2011 and I cannot use the new GPU feature. )
InDesign CC 2017.0
Newest version does the same thing. Anytime you move guides form one layer to another, InDesign crashes, every time.
Anyone have a solution to this.? I used to be able to move them to any layer but that's not possible now.
I just tested in InDesign CC 2017.0, 220.127.116.11 build
Mac OS X 10.12.3. MacBook Pro, Retina Display, GPU on, Animated Zoom on.
I can't replicate that crash so it doesn't seem to be related to either GPU or Animated Zoom or a new macOS version.
The fix I found is to dump the prefs and start clean. Seems to have fixed the issue
Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign.
Glad you figured it out!
I'm still having this problem. I deleted my prefs, turned on and off animated zoom and still crashing.
18.104.22.168 and Mac OS 10.11.6 with Intel Iris Pro Graphics 1536 MB
Have you tried the InDesign update to InDesign CC 2017.1 which arrived this week? It has some bug fixes, I don't know if yours is in it.
InDesign CC 2017.1 released recently has fixed some Layers panel related issues.
I would highly recommend you to try this version and see if your issue has been resolved.
If not please update here.
