What I see:

when trying to open any *.acm I permanently get the error code E_ACT_NOT_READY

What I did:

updated to latest ADE version in the net  .. no help

tried to deactivate my registration  ..  it says not possible

removed ADE from windows

rebooted windows

installed ADE new

Result:  same problem, same error code

What I did too:

installed ADE with my own data on my wifes PC .. successful

(ADE 4.5.2 on Windows 10 pro)

But I want to get my own PC to work with ADE

I tried to get help by chat in Contact Customer Care and got from Jatin Arora:

Please visit Adobe User Forums at http://www.adobe.com/support/forums

I have checked all the details , You need to visit our website Forum support.

They will go ahead and put your question there they will go ahead and revert with the resolution

Does anybody know what else I can do?

I solved it myself. I found the answer under:

Activation errors in Adobe Digital Editions for Windows XP/Vista/7  (and it obviously worked on my Windows 10 too):

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
  2. Press Control+Shift+D to deauthorize Adobe Digital Editions.
  3. Select Erase Authorization.   <==  this did not work !
  4. Click OK and quit Adobe Digital Editions.

If the deauthorizing process is unsuccessful on Windows, it is possible to modify the registry to remove the activation information.

I solved it myself. I found the answer under:

If the deauthorizing process is unsuccessful on Windows, it is possible to modify the registry to remove the activation information.

  • Close all applications
  • Choose Start > Run
  • In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.
  • In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept
  • Select the Adept key.
  • Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.
  • In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.
  • Close the Registry Editor.
  • Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

And that worked finally!
