After Effects doesnt open properly (picture inside)

Anytime I try to open After Effects CS6 it simply opens this window and then fails to respond, disallowing any use of the menus. This even happens when launching after effects as admin. What is going wrong and how can I fix it.

1. make sure your Ae version is up to date. it should be 11.0.4

if that doesn't work

2. make sure you graphic driver is up to date

if that doesn't work

3. reset your preferences Reset After Effects Preferences

if this still occurs provide full OS and hardware specs maybe this is a system requirements problem. did it ever work? does this happen right after you open the software or is it related to a specific project?

Okay, so update didn't work, graphics driver is up to date, and it doesn't open that dialogue box when I hold control alt shift upon opening the program.

I am pretty sure it isn't the specs either.

I don't recall if I have used this program on this pc in the past, if I did it was a year ago at least. This happens as soon as I open the program.

on Windows it requires a sleight of hand. you have to press it right after you click twice.

another way to do it is delete or change the name of your preferences file:

go to you preferences folder:

C:\Users\-name of computer-\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\11.0

and over there you will see a preferences file:

Adobe After Effects 11.0 Prefs.txt

rename it to

Adobe After Effects 11.0 Prefs.old

open your application and try again.

if this does not work I would reinstall.

Welp, nothings working, thanks for trying to help man. I do have one last question though, I installed my after effects as part of the creative suite, is there any way to only redownload After Effects itself?

There were direct download links to previous versions of Ae. try look for the term "direct download"
