Have read recently that Quicktime has recently been deemed a security threat for PC's by Homeland Security.

Can someone with knowledge of this report furnish some clarification on this and how it may relate to Prem El 14 that requires the Quicktime app to function??

Is this security problem true? and if so  being addressed by Apple.   Thanks for your help

It is true but confusing.

Premier Elements 14, and previous, require Quicktime components but not Quicktime itself.  You can uninstall Quicktime and then re-install it while selecting to only install the support files.  The other choice is to find and rename Quicktime.exe to Quicktime. bak or .old or something.  On my computer the easy thing was to rename the .exe

The security risk is only valid if Quicktime is running.  And, this is for Windows only.   Apple is not addressing it.  Apple has said Quicktime for Windows will not get any further support.  Apple and Microsoft have never been pals!

As with other software companies, Adobe has moved or is moving forward away from Quicktime.  Premier Elements 15 does not list Quicktime as a requirement.  It will run without it.  However, some say that some formats from some cameras that use Apple related video files MAY need Quicktime.   The Adobe requirments page has an odd footnote that says, "Import/export of some formats may require activation via an Internet connection. Activation is fast, easy, and free."
