Hello,

I have a technical question about importing some images into After Effects.

The images are quite large, roughly 4100 X 2800 pixels.

What would I set my resolution at in After Effects to be able to export the best quality video? I know there are a lot of formats available.

Thank you,

Alisdair

Begin with the end in mind. Set the after effects resolution to what you're going to export generally 1920x1080. Downsize your still to just over 2x the final image size if you import such large images you'll get crazy shimmering if you reduce to full frame.

You need to determine your playback device or format.  There are many built-in presets for common compositions sizes like HD and UHD (for 4k).

You want to resize your images so at some point in the composition they will be at 100% scale. I have seen so many people having problems with large images and when I look at their compositions many of the lawyers will never get larger than 15 or 25% scale.

All it takes is a little planning and you should be good to go.
