Image Background with Text not Saving

I am working on a calendar in Indesign. On top of the calendar image, I needed to put a few bullet points. I originally had a box and turned it a transparent blue color and then placed a text box with my bullet points over it. Everything worked fine.

Then I was instructed we wanted a wooden background behind the text instead of the blue one I initially had done.

I copied and pasted the wooden background image we normally use for other Indesign files. I made it transparent and followed the same process I did to get the blue background. It worked great, but when I export it as a PDF, the wooden background goes away, and I'm left with the original blue.

I have tried a few different methods to get it to work, but no matter what, it is always disappearing when it's exported.

Does anyone know what I should be doing differently to make it stay?

Thank you so much!Screen Shot 2016-11-10 at 5.14.59 PM.pngScreen Shot 2016-11-10 at 5.14.22 PM.png

When you look at Separations Preview in InDesign, does the woodgrain background still show?

It's possible that the graphic has gotten a non-priniting attribute applied to it.

It's still showing up in Separations Preview.

I wouldn't think it would have a non-printing attribute as we use it in all of our InDesign prints.

I should add that the same wooden background is being used at the bottom, with text on top, but with no transparency and is showing up when exported as PDF.
