Does anyone know how to replace a pre-defined query in the InDesign Find/ Change menu, which was mistakenly deleted from the drop-down list? There was a Multiple Space to Single Space query option pre-defined which I deleted from the list by mistake and can't get it back. A useful option so if anyone can help I'd much appreciate it, thanks.

Do you have another version of InDesign installed? If so, you can copy another version and paste it in the correct folder. Here's where it lives on a Mac (if you are on Windows, let me know):
Otherwise, you can recreate it as per Willi, above. Note that user-created queries live in another place on your hard drive.

And it looks like this when you copy and paste it into InDesign.
Try copying this code below and paste it into the GREP find box. It looks blank, but it's the different space markers. If it doesn't work, you need to put each hidden character back in. Or, as Barb says, copy it from another version.

Or just type it in? It's tedious, but can't take more than a few minutes. It's just a great query—well worth recreating.

Typing it or trying Peter's new method should both work, of course, but I would go for Copy and Paste over typing, because I am lazy.
The code I posted above looks like bracket, blank spaces, bracket, etc. But I tested it and it does have all of the hidden characters. So the easy way if you want the same search is copy that code and paste it into the Find field. It looks weird here in this forum, but it works.
Here it is again. Copy this and paste it into the Find Field (GREP). Type \s in the change to.
[ ]{2,}
You will get a custom search that needs to be saved

The original query was overly long. This one does the same:
Find what: \h\h+
Change to: \s
\h stands for 'horizontal space': all spaces and tabs.
