Problem editing text

I am using Mac OSX 10 and I have created an Indesign CS5 document with pages based on a master. I pasted text onto the pages from Word using copy and paste in place.

However, I now cannot select or edit the pasted text in the ID document. I have tried trashing my preferences and have checked that the layer is not locked.

Please, please can anyone help?

I think I know where I went wrong! The text boxes from the master were not showing up on the pages to which the master was applied.

Is your text on the Master Page?

Is there a big empty invisible text frame over top your visible text?

Thanks Michael but the text is definitely not on the Master page.

Thanks Barb, I've tried your suggestions too.

I have finally resorted to opening a new document without using page masters.

This works fine but it's a bit frustrating not knowing what went wrong in the first place!

Or is the layer locked? If locked, try Object > Unlock all on Spread.

Or back up to Mike's excellent suggestions—Control click on the text frame with the Selection tool (Cmd click on a Mac) to see if it is under another object.

Or Control Shift click on the text frame with the Selection tool (Cmd Shift click on a Mac) to see if you inadvertently put it on a Master page. If that's it... undo, go to the Master and cut the frame, paste on the desired body page.
