How can my assistant access a lightroom catalog from her computer in order to do her part in the editing workflow, if that lightroom catalog is on my computer. Is there an easier way of doing it other than having to create a copy of it on a hard drive?
This is a common request with no simple answer even in these days of network storage, remote telecommuting and Cloud computing.

Not really because Lightroom needs to see (or be fooled into seeing) the catalog on a locally attached drive.
Keeping the catalog on a local external hard drive is robust albeit a pain in the neck.

You could sync the images to Lightroom mobile and give your assistant your creative cloud login. Then she could edit the images online using a browser. It is not ideal, but it will work.
