Lightroom very slow to load images on mac

Hi everyone. My Lightroom seems to be going very slow now when loading any images.

My set up is a McBook Pro Retina 13", 2.8GHz i5,8 gig ram... all of my images are connected via external hard drives (2TB & a 1TB)

It does not seem to matter which drives I look at images on they still take 3 - 5 seconds for the thumb nail to appear and even longer to load when I want to edit anything.

Any ideas or advice is very welcome. I am not a Tech person so please use very basic english when trying to explain how to potentially fix the issue.

Exactly what version number of Lightroom is this? Go to Help->System Info and tell us the version number of Lightroom shown there.

Could you be more specific about what is the exact step or action in Lightroom that is slow? Use the Lightroom name of the step or action, and/or describe in detail. Please state if this problem is in the Develop Module or the Library Module or somewhere else.

I am using LR 6.6

The issues is as follows:

I got to Folders and the select the folder I wish to view. Then in Grid Mode where I view the thumb nails they do not load very quickly, normally for the 12 thumbnails to load on my screen view it will take 2-3 minuets. When I select one image to look at in Loupe mode it then takes another 60 secs to load. To say this is frustration when trying to edit files is an understatement This happens in both Develop Module or the Library Module

I can think of a few things to try

1. In Lightroom, go to Preferences, select the Performance tab, then uncheck the box.
2. If that doesn't work, try deleting your Previews. In your operating system, go to the folder where your catalog file is located. Delete the folder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA. Do not delete anything else.
