Hi there. I'm new to this challenge and am looking for help..
What I'd like to do is select the orange in this image and affect independently from the hands, and the hands independently from the background. My end effect goal is to blur the orange lightly to hide the make up smears. Then color correct the hands slightly. Not sure if you can make the blemishes out with the res of the screencap.
Thanks!
Try something like this:
Careful adding to the matte with the middle sample tool in Color Range key and using the hands instead of the orange background, then using this as a track matte to separate the elements.

well, i can't tell from the screenshot if the orange has grain, but actually, if you blur a solid color, it won't matter. it won't get any smoother!
this makes the process of blurring skin a lot easier. as for color correction, instead of trying to key out the hands, just key out the orange. it's almost a chromakey orange. then makes an alpha matte copy above the hands.

What already has been said - focus on extracting the orange. A bit of crude masking as a garbage matte and soem keying should work reasonably. With a sufficient key, replacing the entire background would be easy enough.

I guess I should have worded the question differently. I'm looking on info on how to to do this as opposed to what to do.
Thanks.

There are almost to countless ways to do what you're asking. I showed you how I would do it, which was exactly what you asked. Carefully read the post and match the settings and you will be able to independently select the orange color and the hands. The common factor in all techniques that I would use are multiple layers and masking.

Worked well after I wrapped my head around the alpha matte. Definitely will use this technique again. Thanks.
