Can't install LR 3.6 (windows 10)

I installed LR 3.6 on new computer; worked fine until tried to import catalog previously backed up on external hard drive; all photos greyed out; I uninstalled LR tried to reinstall; error msg "invalid serial #; I have had LR installed for several years on desktop PC and old laptop no problem...tried chat support but do not support LR 3...please help, I need this to work...thanks...ChuckR
