ID CS6 crash when opening .idml file saved in CC

When I work on a document in ID CC, then try to save as .idml, it crashes when I (and my client) try to open it ID CS6.

My client says they frequently have this issue when designers send them files saved as .idml in CC. Does this happen to anyone else? Any way to save the file other than re-working it in CS6?

Working on El Capitan (Mac).
