RAID ARRAY performance gain???

"I would like to know how much Lightroom performance gain I would get by moving to a RAID array.

My current hardware set up is iMac 27" with 32 GB of RAM. 1TB SSD drive where system and applications reside.

Images on external USB 3.0 JBOD box.

Will move catalogue & image previews to SSD drive in JBOD box

Would I gain much by moving my catalogue to a two-disc RAID setup?

What about images? Would gain much Lightroom performance by placing my images onto a RAID array?

By "performance" I mean significant increases in speed in rendering or importing images.

None.

RAID arrays are more for redundancy, data security, and not speed. Although RAID 0 can give you a speed boost if your system can use it. With the advent of super fast SSD's RAID 0 is old news and for the simple fact if either drive fails in a RAID 0 array all data is lost.

Once LR, the program, is loaded, started, having a fast disk doesn't really come into play.

I may not understand what you are asking but If you move your catalog from your local drive to an external drive you will not gain anything in performance.

OK, thank you. That is what I was asking.

My Lightroom catalog is on my system drive (1 TB SSD) . I thought by moving the catalog and image previews to an external dedicated SSD drive, it might speed things up.

Your welcome. Adobe installs Lr into your pictures folder by default - if you were going to move it from that location for a mobile workflow and you have a service like Dropbox, you could relocate it to that folder and gain access from multiple computers. That could speed up your overall workflow by allowing you to access your catalog and work from anywhere.

I think you need to be specific, when you say "speed things up", exactly what functions in Lightroom are you trying to speed up? Different areas of Lightroom require different solutions to speed up.

Hi dj_paige,

I would like to speed up image loading firstly. I often find that is what slows me down the most. Because my camera files can be very large at times, they can cause a bottle neck for me.

Also, please state the exact version NUMBER of your Lightroom. Go to Help->System Info and report the version number of Lightroom shown there.

my LR version number is : Lightroom version: CC 2015.7

I would like to improve the speed at which the images resolve once downloaded and in the Library Module primarily and secondarily in Develop Module.

When you import, you should be creating 1:1 previews.

How to specify import options in Lightroom

Are you doing that?
