File Permissions problem - with a twist

After Effects is not launching after updating to the latest today.

Getting the same error message other people have:

"After Effects can’t continue: Error while accessing the preference files inside “/Users/xxxx/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/14.0”, please verify the file permissions and try again."

Now the normal solution is to change the file permissions for the 'Adobe' folder, that seems to be working for people.

Here's the twist:

I have no Adobe folder.

I can view invisible files.

I've tried reinstalling it a few times without change.

I've tried creating an adobe folder to see if it will fill on open. No luck.

Using a Macbook latest software all round.

Would love some help - today was supposed to be my editing day!

Thanks lovely people

Solved!

Not sure exactly how, but it's solved.

For future people, I used Time Machine to try restoring the Adobe folder.

When it infuriatingly said 'That folder already exists' I saw it appeared.

Thus I was able to change the permissions as per other threads.

i.e.

  1. Get Info
  2. + (bottom left)
  3. Administrator = Read & Write
  4. Apply to enclosed folders

Thanks everyone!
