I just got Canon EOS 5d Mark iv. I tried to open raw files and was unable. I upgraded to Lightroom 6, thinking that would solve the problem, but I'm still unable to open the files. I see that LR now supports the Mark iv raw files, but cannot make it work

I gambled and updated CC2015 and it upgraded my stand alone LR 6.6 2016 to LR 6.7, I can now open my 5DIV files.
So if anyone else has a question to this matter, you have your answer.

Only Lightroom 6.7 supports the 5D Mark IV. Not earlier versions.
You may be running Lightroom 6.0. Make sure you've updated to version 6.7.

I have the same exact problem, just received a Canon 5DIV , and I have stand alone not CC LR6, it's updated to 6.6. When I go to help it says update for CC2015 . Will this update my stand alone not CC to the current version of 6, so I can open my Canon 5DIV files

What does the Help (Win) or Photoshop Lightroom (Mac) > About screen say?
Can you post a screenshot?
If 6.6 then the update should give you 6.7.
If CC then you are running a Cloud version.

LR 6 and LR CC 2015 are the same program, just running under different licensing models.
There is only one EXE and only one update.

I believe your statement is incorrect, I upgraded LR6 twice, once after I bought there was a update to 6.6 and now to 6.7

Mfhersch you may have updated to original LR6 , why adobe even has that available makes me wonder, however, updating to LR6 should of automatically updated you to the current update for LR6, which is 6.7

You misunderstand my post.
There is only one install program for both LR 6 and LR CC 2015.
There is only one update program for LR 6.7 and LR CC 2015.7
LR 6.0 is the same program as LR CC 2015.0
LR 6.1 is the same program as LR CC 2015.1
LR 6.2 is the same program as LR CC 2015.2
LR 6.6 is the same program as LR CC 2015.6
LR 6.7 is the same program as LR CC 2015.7
