Using Gotham OTF and postscript simultaneously

I've been searching the forums hoping to find an answer to this font issue.

We have hundreds of InDesign files, some done in Gotham OTF and some done in Gotham postscript. The majority of files I work on use postscript. If I only have the postscript fonts on my Mac my files open fine. But if I try to add the folder of OTF fonts to open the files using OTF, it's almost as if the OTF overrides the postscript, then I can't open my files that use postscript. Help!
