Why does InDesign CS5.5 freeze in some areas while other parts remain usable?

I am using InDesign CS 5.5 in Windows 7 with an Intel Core i5 processor at 2.6 GHz.

I am only able to use the type tool and scroll up and down, but that's it.

I've reinstalled the software, and yet this does not fix the problem.

The program still works on an older laptop. I'm not sure what's going on.

Any suggestions?

Yes, and thank you!

I had previously used a large font setting in Windows. After seeing your post, I temporarily switched to the default setting, then back to the large font setting, and everything seems to be working fine for now. If that changes, I'll try these steps again.
