Random blue boxes in normal view

I see these random blue boxes when try to add any objects.

They do not appear when viewing in Preview, I believe it has to do something with my master page  or some kind of highlighting gone wrong, but I can figure it out at all.

It looks similar to an override indicator in an otherwise empty cell:

If that's it, Alt/Opt click the highlighted style name in the Para styles (and/or Char Styles) panel(s), or click the + (located to the left of the lightening bolt) to turn them off.

Never mind. It's shading! Click in each frame, and uncheck shading in the ¶ view on the Control panel. Once you get them turned off for the frames, deselect all and do it one more time—it must be on as a default.
