Random blue boxes in normal view

I see these random blue boxes when try to add any objects.

They do not appear when viewing in Preview, I believe it has to do something with my master page  or some kind of highlighting gone wrong, but I can figure it out at all.

It looks similar to an override indicator in an otherwise empty cell:

If that's it, Alt/Opt click the highlighted style name in the Para styles (and/or Char Styles) panel(s), or click the + (located to the left of the lightening bolt) to turn them off.

Never mind. It's shading! Click in each frame, and uncheck shading in the Ā¶ view on the Control panel. Once you get them turned off for the frames, deselect all and do it one more timeā€”it must be on as a default.
