cannot seem to be able to delete a folder name in the library module?

Right click on the folder, select Remove, then click on the Remove button. Note: the photos in this folder will be removed (un-imported) from Lightroom.

You need to right-click on the folder (Ctrl-Click on a Mac), not click on the folder.
