I have been trying to create a video in After Effects 2017 however my the live preview is so slow it is almost considered unusable for some of my work. I have gotten used to how quick Final Cut Pro X lets me see in real time (which ik adobe can't go that fast) but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?

i have a Intel I7 6700K, GTX 1070,and 16gb DDR4 ram

Lots of people have those problems. Current versions of AE are simply extremely buggy.

you forgot to mention exact Os version.

After Effects 2017

make sure you use 14.0.1

you will need to elaborate what exactly are you doing. Ae is not a video editor and not designed to give real-time playback without caching the frames first. actually real-time performance has been greatly increased in the latest versions.

provide more information about your setup, show some screenshots, and give us information about the performance you are experiencing in measurements we can evaluate.

I would suggest you also read this:

I had the same problem, and a friend of mine suggested me to move the Preview tab under the timeline tab.

It's probably a silly bug, but it worked for me.
