Replacing a background color

I have a photo of a magnolia tree in front of a white house.  I want to select the white areas that show through the leaves and darken them.  How do I do that?  Thanks.

I would suggest you look up any "sky replacement" tutorial or similar that explains the basics of using selections to isolate stuff.
