Why is Lightroom importing the wrong number of pictures?

I have a regular Mac folder with 10,400 images and videos (regular file types), but LR is only importing 9,942 of them. It shows me photos/videos it can't import when the import is complete, but they number about 10 - not 458!

Has anyone seen this before or could explain why there is such a discrepancy? It would be great to have the confidence that LR is capturing everything!

Thank you in advance.

If you have Raw + JPEG combinations Lr will usually treat the JPEG as a sidecar and ignore it. You can override this behaviour by setting an option in Lightroom preferences as shown in below screenshot

In the box showing the not-Imported files, there was a reason. What is the exact wording of that reason?

Thank you @IanLyons, this solved the problem!! As a side note, if I wish to obscure the RAW files again, where do they go exactly?

Thank you ManiacJoe, but the reason due to some kind of corruption.

If you uncheck the preference again Lr will, in future, import both the Raw and JPEG into the same folder. However, the JPEG will be treated as a sidecar and thus invisible within Lr.
