Problem with tagging lists

Hi,

  I'm having trouble structuring lists on a page in a PDF file.  JAWS can read lists on all other pages correctly except on that page.  The tree tag is done right.  Please, can someone help figure it out?

If the tag tree is done right, then it must work, right? If it doesn't work, maybe the tag tree (or somethng else) is not quite right...? Maybe you should revisit your assumptions? And provide some additional info (or preferably the PDF file), otherwise it will be difficult to help.

When you say "The tree tag is done right", what criteria are you using? I encourage you to consider using the Matterhorn Protocol (http://www.pdfa.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/MatterhornProtocol_1-02.pdf ), which provides criteria for conformance to ISO 14289 (PDF Universal Accessibility). Especially for a document about disabilities - great opportunity to model the way by full conformance to PDF/UA. At first glance, I do not see anything that would prevent JAWS from reading the list, but the structure could be improved. Each bullet should be in a <Label> tag, not in <Lbody>. As Olaf mentioned, it would be helpful if you could provide a link to the PDF.

I'm using WCAG 2.0 best practices for PDF.  I used <lbl> tags outside of the <lbody>, but JAWS still didn't reading it.  The PDF isn't publish yet.  One question: Does it matter if the bullet and the list body are shown as one unit selected. like the blue outline encircling them, or two individual units?

OK, WCAG 2.0 is a good choice too. Have you ruled out a JAWS configuration issue? Maybe try using NVDA, or one of the free screen-reader emulators like the one built into PAC 2 or Callas PDF go HTML.

WAG 2.0 is dandy for PDF content that is not "of PDF" (e.g., that which is defined and discussed in ISO 32000). For "of PDF" to be accessible ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA used. From the foundation WCAG 2.0 is used where/when appropriate. Thus, a harmonious accessible PDF.
