In Lightroom 5, when I try to edit a photo using an external editor (Photoshop CS6) using the Photo-> Edit in -> Photoshop CS6 command, the CS6 starts, but then I get the error message: Could not complete your request because of a problem parsing the JPEG data.

The same photo opens directly in CS6 without problem. Please help..

Have you tried reinstalling PS CS6. Sounds like the LR Edit in command isn't really opening PS CS6.

Try this.

Have PS CS6 open and an image open in it before you call up the Edit In option in LR. Does the image sent to PS from LR load correctly?

In my case the problem is that the photo (any photo) opens in Photoshop just fine. I am talking about using the command "Edit in" in Lightroom and choosing "Photoshop".

Did you try opening copies of some of the JPEGs directly into Photoshop then save then using Save As. Next import the copy JPEGs into Lr and check whether they open when using Edit in Photoshop.

BTW, I suggest copies (new file name) so as to avoid further compressing your JPEGs

Thank you very much. I did that and, in deed, the copy of the photo opened in Photoshop, but obviously I cannot do that every time I want to edit a photo in the external editor. Is there a next step?

Happy and peaceful New Year!

How are you getting these problem JPG on your computer? Are you using some other software, other than LR, to copy them from a memory card to a folder on your drive and then opening LR and adding them to the LR catalog?

If you are I suspect it is the other software that is doing something to them.

I use Lightroom to load the pictures from the memory card. No other software interferes with the procedure.
