How do I restore backed up catalog and images?

Hi all,

I have backed up my catalog file and image files. I'd like to restore these on a new computer. Despite many topics on this forum about how to back up files and how to restore only the catalog file (assuming the image files are still in the same location), I did not find any page explaining how to restore both the image and catalog files from back ups.

This doesn't actually involve making or using backups, you don't need backups to do this, you can use the originals; although you have to find a way to transfer the catalog file and photos to the new computer. (NOTE: you still need backups for other reasons, such as protection against disk failure and other catastrophes)
