Why is my movie 26 gigabytes?

i made an 8 minute video and finally completed it after a month, but the size is 26 gigs which slows my computer so much. I am going to be making more episodes  after I upload this to YouTube but I don't know what I am doing wrong to make it such a ridiculous size. I really don't want to redo it because the deadline is in a week. What do I do?
