So now InDesign 2017 has the App Frame too.

Why?

Now I have to use a mouse and click (i.e. I'm loosing money!!!!!)

I'm a keyboard speed freak.

What keys close the App Frame?

Window >  application frame.

Turn it off there.

BTW, it's been there since I think CS4.

Window menu > uncheck Application Frame. It's a sticky selection. Once you're selected it, it stays that way.

Not sure what you’re referring to but show options is an, uh, option.

In the place dialog, options were selectable directly in that dialog, now you have to click "options" button to show those options in that dialog (an extra unnecessary step) - hopefully there is a preference to "always show options", I just haven't found it yet...

I think that was due to a Sierra update that you have on extra click to the Options button.

However, holding down Shift when clicking the name of the file still brings up the Options for placing. And, furthermore, it's not sticky when you use the Shift key so it doesn't come up when you don't need it.
