Elements 15: missing PSD thumbnails in Win10

Hi,

I just installed PSE 15 in Win 10.  Was previously using PSE 13, this version was still installed when I installed 15.

With 13 I had no PSD thumbnails in windows explorer. After PSE 15 installation I got nice PSD image thumbnails with small PSE15 icon in the corner of thumbnail.

No longer using 13 I uninstalled it but unfortunately also the thumbnails no longer work!

Also tried reinstalling 15 again but still no thumbnails.

Can someone (Adobe support? )  please help in getting the thumbnails back ?

If you mean the thumbnails in Windows Explorer, yes, recent Windows versions no longer supplies the required component (codec) to create and show the thumbnails.

I am afraid your only solution to restore that feature removed by Microsoft is to use third party codecs, as suggested in the link I gave in my previous post.

I do use the organizer so that I never need to get thumbnails in the Explorer for .psd files.

You could also use .tif format instead of .psd or use excellent free browsing utilities like Faststone or Irfanview.

Thanks for your kind support.

Frankly speaking I would expect Adobe staff to clarify this but it seems, as this thread shows, they don't care about their customers.

On top of that it should be adobe providing this functionality as PSD is their file format and we, as customers, are paying for their software. I am a long term customer for both PSE and Lightroom buying almost any new version...  but no longer sure I'll stay with Adobe for the future. Sorry to say.

I was aware of this, thanks.

In fact with PSE13 I had no thumbs. Strange fact is that when I installed PSE15,  thumbs started working.

I then removed PSE13 (no longer needed as I'll use 15): thumbs lost again !!

Finally I found why I do have thumbs for .psd files in some folders.

If you have Google Chrome browser installed in Windows you can get PSD thumbs in Windows File Explorer.

Open Chrome

Ctrl+O (opens file open dialog)

browse to the folder where you have your psd images you want thumbs for.

Just wait a few seconds and Chrome will create all thumbnails for you.

Exit Chrome

If you use File explorer you see the thumbs 🙂

Of course this requires to refresh them thru Chrome from time to time.
