Live Text Template, What prevents export?

If I make a new project from starch, I have no issues selecting Export > "Composition as Text.." The problem comes from other projects, even if I still have my comp selected, when I import an older AE file, or if I open an older AE file, the option goes away. I'm trying to figure out what flips the switch.

Even if I, Make a new file, make a new comp, import older AE project, the option is grayed out. But, even if I delete everything in my project except for that original comp, the option still isn't selectable. It's like simply the act of bringing in part of an old project file causes the new file to never be able to export for template.

This is repeatable. Is there something to look out for or to check out?

I seemed to find a work around, Even though I may have the comp window, or the comp timeline active, it won't let me export, but double clicking on the comp in the project panel will re-enable the export option.
