Want full resolution when sending to Adobe Media Encoder

Before AME, I used to output in the AE Render Queue using Best Settings.

Now, I see that if I set my preview window to half resolution and send the animation to AME, it outputs at half-resolution.  I don't want that.  I want the half resolution to speed up previews but full resolution for any renderings.

How can I get the equivalent of Best Settings (where full resolution is forced ON) when using AME?

Set your AE comps Full Resolution.  It's a bug, and that's the workaround.

read about the bug here: Known issues in After Effects CC 2017

you could do as Dave suggests, or use the ever-more-useful feature of Queue in AME that will work fine no matter what.

Thanks Roei, but I don't find that feature all that useful.

It has the potential to be -- but I use varying resolutions, and I like the Match Source option in AME.  I don't understand why the Render Queue doesn't have that option, but until it does, I don't want to use it.

I also don't understand why it doesn't have H.264 output.  Another major issue for me.

when you use Queue in AME it's exactly the same as Add to AME with the difference that your render settings are kept. this is a very important advantage over the traditional Add to AME.  you can still use match source. you can read all about it here: After Effects CC 2015.3 In-Depth: Queue in Adobe Media Encoder | Creative Cloud blog by Adobe

to see the difference between the two and why Queue in AME is really superior you can watch my tutorial from 02:54

After Effects 2015.3 - My Favorite Features - YouTube

try it! you might like it. till this day I have not found a case where I should use ADD to AME instead of Queue in AME but if you have a good reason please share.

I also don't understand why it doesn't have H.264 output.  Another major issue for me.

the reason is this written in this article: using Adobe Media Encoder to create H.264, MPEG-2, and WMV videos from After Effects | Creative Clou...

You're right Roei, this feature is much better than using AME directly and gets around all of the issues I was having .

I didn't realize it was designed to ignore the Output Module.

Thanks for point this out!
