Mac fonts not really available in published file

I've found many variations on this theme - but basically I (PC) received a packaged (MAC) InDesign file and all the fonts are listed in font folder, but show 0 KB - so they aren't physically in the folder. Are there instructions to provide the mac user with how to either package file so I can access the fonts or instructions on how they can provide the fonts so that I (PC) can access?

Mac fonts are simply not compatible with Windows machines. Nothing anyone says or does will change that.

Switch to OpenType fonts for crossplatform use.

So there is nothing they can do to get me the fonts, unless I buy myself?
