resize in Photoshop CC 2017

I think I'm missing something and can't find it in Photoshop CC 2017, regarding resizing pictures. In CS5 I was able to select the corner of a photo (when the layer was selected) and resize to fit where it needed to. The only way I see to resize in this program is to use image size, which will take forever when I have to layer photos and fit three on top. Please let me know if there's a better way.

Make sure the (show transform conrtrols) in options bar is enabled

Or EDIT > FREE TRANSFORM
