Stalled Imports

I have LR CC 2015.8 and it has been giving me problems since the latest update.

GLACIALLY SLOW IMPORTS.

Example: I am trying to import 100 JPG files, and the import stalls after 6 images; 5 minutes later there are 12 visible thumbnails, then a another small batch minutes later, etc. Aperture 3 loads the same images fast with all the thumbnail previews visible in the browser in a few seconds and completes all the copying to disk in about 2 minutes.

My computer is an iMac Retina 5K, 27" (5120 x 2880) , Late 2015

Processor 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5

24 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 RAM

Graphics AMD Radeon R9 M390 2048 MB

Import Settings: Smart Previews, Graphics processor enabled or disabled makes no difference!!

Below is just a few items from the Forced Quit Report. I have omitted a great many pages of its text.

Hi Jonr,

Could you please try unplugging all the USB devices from your computer and then try importing the images?

Regards,

Sahil

I unplugged the USB devices and rebooted the iMac.

No joy importing from the built in SD card slot. Same for 2 other card readers. Lightroom locks up when trying to quit lightroom. Have to Force Quit.

In all cases, the installed Aperture 3 application had no problems importing 100+ images very very very quickly.

This is not a USB problem!!

Note:

Import Settings: Smart Previews, Graphics processor enabled or disabled makes no difference!!

Try copying a few images from your memory card to your desktop and import directly from there.

Please let me know if it works.

Importing files from the desk top or an external HD into LR does work quickly. Joy.

So now how do I get card readers (built in or external) to work for LR?

The unplugging and rebooting didn’t work for LR although Aperture had no problems before or after the unplugging.

Are there any video files in the memory card that are also being imported into Lightroom?

Try copying your files from the memory card then reformat the card, and take a sample photo, then try importing it directly from the camera.
