Each time I try to open a ACS file (purchased or rented book)

I receive this message "Error! Check Activation."

No matter which Version of ADE I´m using (currently the latest one)

The Activation of the PC is confirmed as to be ok and valid.

Trials to delete the activation fail with advise "currently not possible, please try later".

Who can help to solve this issue?

Many thanks for any Support.

Windows:

    Close all applications.

    Choose Start > Run.

In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.

In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept

    Select the Adept key.

    Choose File > Export.

In the Export Registry File dialog box, select Selected Branch under Export Range. Enter a name and location for the backup registry key, and then click Save.

Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.

In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.

    Close the Registry Editor.

Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

Macintosh:

    quit Adobe Digital Editions.

Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

If you are using 10.7, see https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html

Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

I Had the same problem on my PC and followed the instructions. Now I'm getting this message:

"ADE could not connect to the server. Make sure you're connected to internet", when I want to open a downloaded book from a public Library.

I am connected, I've just downloaded a book from a Library  !!!

I succeeded to open the book on the same ADE ID on my IPhone. Someone told me this could be the problem : the same ID on 2 different machines. But we're supposed to be able to read the same book on any device and restart where we left the last time, whatever device we used !

Someone can explain to me ?

I also get the Error:  Check Activation message.  I tried to use your directions to correct the problem.  On #7, I assume I am supposed to enter HKEY_CURRENT_USER for the backup registry key.  It's not clear.  I tried that, and I hit save.  It says right click the adept key.  I saw no adept key.  Can you help?

Which you used for the Backup is your decision.

The suggestion Nanaky made worked. The step about "suggested branch" didn't seem to exist in Windows 10 so I skipped it and it still worked fine. Thanks!
